Gobeil's Examination Preparation Course
Gobeil’s Examination Preparation Course will be held in Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto on:
The Financial Planning Examination Level 1 is a challenge for every candidate. You must obtain an in-depth knowledge of the financial planning curriculum and you must be able to perform well on an examination that lasts for 4 hours.
If you are prepared to put in the effort, the Gobeil Examination Preparation Course can provide you with the knowledge and skills that you require to pass the Financial Planning Examination Level 1. We will provide you with study tips, a two-day live course on the knowledge that you "Must Know" to pass the exam, and mock exams to give you the practice that you need to pass.
The average candidate spends more than 150 hours cramming for the Examination. This course is not a substitute for a disciplined review of the enormous amount of material included in the CFP® Curriculum. Before attending this course, you should master the questions in Gobeil’s Collection of 1,000 Questions (not included with the course registration).

Upon completion of this course, you should have:
- improved your knowledge of the subject matter of the CFP curriculum that requires a mastery level; and
- improved your examine writing techniques.
Over the years, we have found that many candidates have a basic knowledge of all topics in the curriculum, but they do not have the in-depth knowledge required for certain topics that require a mastery of the topic. The Must Knows include the topics that require a mastery level for the exam. The presentations will focus on the Must Knows. We will not waste your time on the basics that you have learned in your qualifying courses.
The Course will cover the Must Knows of:
- retirement planning including needs analysis, OAS, CPP, RRIF, LIRA, beneficiaries, creditor proofing and death;
- risk management including risk management, life and disability, whole life, universal life, segregated funds, beneficiaries, and creditor proofing;
- estate planning including joint ownership, trusts, income attribution, wills, and intestacy;
- income tax planning including capital gains exemptions for a principal residence and shares of a qualified small business corporation; and capital gains rollovers for shares of a qualified small business corporation, a former business property, to a spouse and using Section 85;
- investment planning including investment risks, T-bills, money market funds, GICs, mutual funds, financial analysis, diversification, and stock options; and
- general principles and professional standards including financial planning process, Practice Standards, Code of Ethics, representation of related clients, education planning, home ownership, employee benefits and special needs.
